I know what it’s like to feel lost and alone.
That’s probably why I’ve spent most of my adult life on the path of self-discovery. I’ve been fortunate to work with a handful of the most dedicated and talented therapists. Thank you, Kathleen! My work inspired me to become a therapist myself. I hope my experience makes your journey a little faster and less painful.
Don’t worry: I’ll never ask you to go to a place I haven’t been willing to go myself.
What is it like to work with you?
I’ve been told I am tenacious! I NEVER give up.
Some of my clients have chosen to work with me for decades. We never stop making discoveries and finding more areas for growth. Our lives are ever-changing, and I believe that therapy should be able to shift with the changes.
I am passionate about learning, and I delight in bringing unique perspectives and cutting-edge information into my sessions.
Don’t be surprised if we find ourselves laughing during our sessions. I believe in the adage, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Life is tough enough. I hope we can find moments of laughter to ease the pain.
What will we do in therapy?
We’ll get curious, slowing down long enough to take our brains off “auto-pilot” and tune into what is really going on inside.
In our fast-paced, tech-driven lives, we’ve gotten good at avoiding our emotions and shrugging off the body’s messages.
But there’s a downside to keeping our THOUGHTS front and center: We pass up countless opportunities to understand what’s happening in the moment.
So, when we’re in our sessions, we’ll make a point of tuning into those little day-to-day experiences and allowing ourselves to sit with the deeper feelings.
Creating space for genuine understanding of who you are and why you do what you do paves the way for change and healing.
What is your professional experience?
I’m a romantic. I started my career as a wedding planner. Weddings can be magical. The best ones are filled with hope and promise. I love that feeling that anything is possible. It’s been a long time since my wedding planning days, but I still have that feeling of hope every time I meet a new individual or couple.
As a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, I have worked with hundreds of individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds to discover the emotional cycles that keep them trapped in unfulfilling lives and relationships. Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT for short, is an attachment-based therapy model whose basic tenant is that loving connections are transformative. Without loving, safe, and connected “attachments” or relationships, we cannot thrive. On the contrary, our emotional lives are actually driven by anger and fear. “Fight” or “Flight.” Love is truly the answer.
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Loyola University Chicago and have 15 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
What do you do for fun?
When I’m not seeing clients, I read the latest books about therapy, listen to interesting podcasts, attend webinars, seminars, and training, or spend my free moments cuddling on the couch with my beloved Bernedoodle, Ripley.
I find peace in nature and never miss a chance to spend the day at the beach.
My biggest joy is my family, my husband of 20 years and my two awesome children, ages 9 and 13.
What about you?
